New York City is an amazing place, especially during the holiday season. If you’ve never been to the Big Apple, you probably still know about the iconic holiday traditions in the city – Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center, and New Year’s Eve in Times Square.
Well, perhaps the famous Plaza Hotel has started a new tradition – the Betsey Johnson Eloise Christmas Tree in the grand lobby. 2011 marks the first year the hotel has ever unveiled an official Christmas tree.
Despite the fact that hundreds of celebrities and dignitaries have stayed in The Plaza’s top-notch rooms, the most famous resident isn’t even real. Ever heard of Eloise? That fictional little girl made famous in the books by Kay Thompson has inspired the famous fashion designer to decorate a bright pink and very tall Christmas tree in her honor.
Johnson is no stranger to The Plaza. Last year the 69-year-old fashion icon designed the Eloise Suite – one of the more vibrant and fun hotel renovations we’ve ever heard of. The suite obviously features cutting edge amenities but also is dripping in pink, glitter, and everything a little girl could ever want!
Though there have been plenty of hotel renovations done on The Plaza over the years, the grand dame of New York has retained its classic look and architecture. When you walk into the hotel, you feel like you might be walking into another time.
