Celebrate New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day take place each year on 31st December and 1st January respectively.  The fun and festivities take place on New Year’s Eve, when we see out the old year and get set to ring in the new.  New Year’s Eve is regarded as a time to be merry and have fun, and the great majority of people decide to do just this.  Of course, drinking is not quite as much a part of New Year’s Eve as it once was a couple of decades ago, mainly because of the much tougher laws regarding drink driving.

On the other hand, New Year’s Day is the time to kick back and relax and enjoy the beginning of a brand new and very promising year.  New Year’s Day is a time to be with family, even if it is the only time you see some members of your family!

To a large number of Americans, the start of the New Year in this country is signified by the dropping of the ball in Times Square in New York City.  The ball was first dropped more than 100 years ago, back in 1908.

One enduring aspect of the arrival of a New Year is making New Year’s resolutions.  Millions of people make New Year’s resolutions every year, and millions of people soon find out that it is a lot easier to make them than to keep them!
