Donna Summer dies at 63

Newer generations may have a hard time recognizing the name Donna Summer, but for those who lived during the disco era the name will continue to mean something.  Donna Summer was a disco legend, but sadly she has passed on at the age of 63 after battling cancer.  She fought for months with the cancer, but early on Thursday morning she passed away.  Her family and those who knew her well are grieving her loss.  She was a woman of gifts and faith.  Her life was quite extraordinary for the times and she certainly leaves behind a legacy.

She was called the Queen of Disco and had Grammys under her belt.  In the 70s and 80s she was recognized for many songs such as Last Dance, Bad Girls, and She Works Hard for the Money.  She had a duet with Barbra Streisand called No More Tears (Enough is Enough), which was one of four songs to hit the top 100 on the Billboard charts.  Streisand told the media that it was a shock to learn of her death because she was still vibrant months ago.  She also stated that her talent and voice were amazing.  Summer was the first female to have back-to-back platinum double albums.  She also starred in Thank God It’s Friday, a 1978 film that received an Oscar for the song Last Dance.  She appeared on the 90s show Family Matters as well.  Her last appearance to the public was in 2008, when she sang on American Idol.
