A Washington State Patrol trooper is going to be honored on Flag Day. This trooper was killed in the line of duty while conducting a routine traffic stop. He left behind a fiancée who still mourns his loss. This is just one member of law enforcement that will be honored on Flag Day. Flag Day is traditionally a holiday that is overlooked. We tend to forget what the flag stands for, the many variations of the flag that came before the one we have now, and why we use the flag in many ceremonies from regular school ceremonies to covering US military caskets.
The US is undergoing many military moves right now, from bringing home troops from the Middle East to getting other personnel moved around the US to different bases. Flag Day can be a day in June for those going through a move to remember their friends, take a break from the military moves required, and just enjoy things for a little while.
Flag Day is certainly a time to remember the past, not only those who fought and lost their lives but also those who have made it through the fights. It can be another day to remember 9/11 and how we all gathered during that terrible time to standing against those who hurt our nation and citizens, and how many remembered the meaning behind the American Flag. The flag was formed during a time of war to show that America could be one country rather than separated by foreign powers, thus the existence of Flag Day.
