Hacker Lab, a venture in Sacramento with the aim of fostering the development of technological start up companies, has signed a commercial lease for it to be able to move from its existing site into almost 10,500 square feet of warehouse/office space located at 1715 I Street. The forthcoming relocation will come as a major improvement on its current location, which is situated at 2743 Franklin Boulevard, and which offers as just 850 square feet of space in total.
Gina Lujan, a native of Sacramento who owns Hacker Lab, previously developed collaborative work space for a software development company in Berkeley and intends to replicate this business model in Sacramento, creating incubator space and equipment to be available for local software/hardware developers, various technology startups and web designers to rent.
Hacker Lab now has over 200 members and eventually intends to be able to start operating as a certified nonprofit organization. East West Commercial Real Estate’s regional vice president, Brian Jacks, was the facilitator for the two-year deal for collaborative tech workspace, which comes into effect from October 1st this year. The landlord was represented by David Herrera of Colliers International.
The stated intention of Hacker Lab is to disrupt technology, with a focus on community and education, and to make use of imagination and a collaborative effort in order to result in the creation of something genuinely great.
