After a record-breaking 50 years, Canada’s Mic Mac Bar & Grill might be about to relocate its premises – to just across the parking lot. Those who own the legendary family restaurant, which is renowned for its steaks, top-notch service and laid-back atmosphere, want to make the move to ensure that the local watering hole will be around for the next half century, says Mic Mac Bar & Grill’s general manager, Dean Madill.
New Build to Accommodate Changing Demographics
The answer, it seems, is to build from the ground up by making use of a lot adjacent to the famous Dartmouth restaurant. “Our demographics are changing a little,” says Madill. “There’s more and more young people in Dartmouth now, and their vision of Mic Mac is more of a bar and grill versus the old tavern style.” Madill assures regular customers, however, that they have no intention of changing the food or style of the place.
Maintaining Tradition While Improving Layout
While the blueprints are still in the process of being drawn up and no permits have yet been secured, Madill says that the primary motivation for Mic Mac making a move across the parking lot is about logistics rather than wild notions about changing anything. “The owner (Terry Legoffic) still cuts every steak that leaves the kitchen … and they [the owners] have no intention of messing with the formula that’s worked so well for them in the past 50 years,” Madill notes. “Building new would give us the option of creating a bigger, nicer Mic Mac that’s laid out a little better.”
