International Peace Day (UN)

International Peace Day (UN)

The United Nations International Peace Day has taken place on 21st September every year for the last 11 years, before which it always took place on the third Tuesday of the same month.  The United Nations General Assembly created International Peace Day more than 30 years ago, back in 1981, in order to establish and promote the concept of world peace.

The United Nations International Peace Day is celebrated all over the world; each participating country is fully aware of and in agreement with the idea that world peace is a very worthwhile and valuable proposition.  Given that nobody really wants unrest and war, it might be thought that world peace would be easy to achieve; however, the reality is that complete world peace seems very unlikely.

However difficult world peace may be to achieve, it is not an impossible concept and the world has been slowly but surely moving toward this goal despite a number of setbacks.  There is no denying the fact that the world is a lot more peaceful at this point in the 21st century than it has arguably ever been before.

Celebrations and special activities will be taking place all over the world this year, including concerts, festivals, a worldwide peace wave and moments of silence that will take place in all time zones at noon.  International Peace Day can be celebrated by anyone, no matter where they are in the world.
