Preparing for a PCS move

Preparing for a PCS move

Moving in the military is never easy on the families, but there are a number of ways in which they can be more prepared for the upcoming shift.  It will be much easier to prepare yourself and your spouse for the upcoming move if you communicate properly and take the time to sit down and talk about the relocation.

The first step is to make sure that you carefully read your new orders and make certain that you have a correct grasp of all of the information contained within them.

If the orders relate to duty overseas, it is very important to check that it is stated that your dependants will be accompanying you.  Some branches of the service insist that the names of all dependants have to be listed on the orders.  If you come across any discrepancies and are concerned about them, you need to bring this up with personnel as soon as possible.

I think it is a good idea to make a few copies of your orders in order to provide them to companies such as your cellphone provider.  You may need to show your orders to a cellphone company in order to prove that you are moving if you are trying to end your contract with them.  Copies should also be made for the purpose of traveling if you are being moved overseas.  In any case, it is a good idea to have multiple copies of your orders to cover all eventualities.
