Moving is tough no matter when you do it, but if you’re lucky enough to have a flexible move schedule, there are definitely certain times of the year that are better than others.
The Perfect Time
The best time to move is in the spring or late fall and during the week. You’ll find it easier to hire movers and get better rates on truck rentals or professional movers. The first of each month is generally a peak time for relocation, so pick a moving day later in the month if you can.
If you live in the real world, you may not have much flexibility when it comes to scheduling a move day. Here are some things to consider:
School
When you’ve got kids at home, your house is ruled by the school calendar. Summer is generally a good time for families to move, though if your kids will be changing schools or moving to a new town you should allow a few weeks for them to adjust before school starts up again.
Holidays
Just don’t do it!
If you must move during a major holiday, though, try to give yourself enough time to get settled in your new place before the holiday season begins or just wait till the holidays are over and move then.
Seasons and Weather
Spring and summer offer the best weather for relocation in most areas of the country, though mild winters in some regions could make your move a breeze. Remember, freezing temperatures and poor winter road conditions can ruin even the most well-planned move.
