As you go ahead with your DITY military move, it is important to keep a few things in mind. One important thing to consider is the fact that you need to work out all of your relocation requirements ahead of time.
There are real monetary rewards for a DITY move but they will only work if you are able to keep a handle on all of the pernickety little details involved. Can you handle the size of your move? How much of it do you really think you are capable of managing on your own? Do you have any family members or friends who would be willing and able to provide assistance? When you do move, do you know how to make the necessary arrangements for your pets and other family members?
There are two very important things that you need to make a point of remembering. You can receive an allowance from the government that will amount to 95% of the total cost of moving, but if your own figures go over this amount then the excess will have to be paid out of your own pocket.
By the same token, any additional money that you receive from the government that does not end up being used for the move will be registered as taxable income, which means that you will have to obtain a W-2 form via the government for when you get around to doing your tax return.
