Tips on moving with your cat

Moving to Ventana Canyon with your cat is exciting.  You might be starting a new adventure, such as retirement, in Arizona.  You love your cat and you want to take him or her with you, but they might feel extremely stressed during the move.  Even if you move from Ventana Canyon, they might feel upset.  In fact, any time that your cat’s routine is disrupted they can get stressed out.  Cats are a lot like people in that they understand moods, change, and feel anxiety for something new.

You will want to go slowly when it comes to your move.  Keep playing with and feeding your cat as you normally would.  Take your cat to the vet for a checkup.  Also check out the state laws.  Some states have laws whereby you have to get an entry permit.  You will need to check online at the state site for pet regulations and requirements.

You must stay calm, since your cat can pick up on your moods.  If you remain calm they will be able to do so as well.  Make certain that you have the carrier prepared too.  You want to secure your cat so that he or she will not be upset.  Make certain that the carrier is large enough for a long distance move.  A small carrier on a long distance move may mean that your cat cannot stretch or move during the ride, which can become quite uncomfortable.  Your cat can also forego going to the bathroom for seven hours, so you can set up a litter box at night for them.
