Trekkie convention for Las Vegas

On Thursday August 9th fans of sci-fi TV show Star Trek will be descending in their thousands on Las Vegas, Nevada, for the 2012 Official Star Trek Convention, which is being staged by Creation Entertainment.  The mass relocation of fans to Las Vegas is for a convention that will run from Thursday to Sunday and is the biggest annual event of its kind, featuring a plethora of actors, producers and writers of the science fiction phenomenon, along with vendors and big name fans.

This year’s convention will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the second Star Trek series, The Next Generation, which began on syndicated television all the way back in 1987.  The 2012 convention sees a move back to the Rio Suites Hotel and Casino, which was used last year for the first time with the convention having made a move from its previous home in the Las Vegas Hilton in order to offer an even more user friendly experience with cutting edge amenities.

Although Patrick Stewart and Leonard Nimoy will not be attending this year, the event will be headlined by William Shatner and will feature over 70 other Star Trek celebrities including Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks, Jonathan Frakes, Kate Mulgrew and Brent Spiner.  Other Star Trek actors appearing at the convention include Walter Koenig (Chekov), Michael Dorn (Worf), Colm Meaney (Chief O’Brien) and Jeffrey Combs (Weyoun).  The convention’s main event will be the appearance of four out of five of the television Star Trek captains – Shatner, Brooks, Mulgrew and Bakula – on Sunday.
