UK fan buys famous soap house

Australian soap opera Neighbours, which has been running for 28 years, has made the Melbourne street of Pin Oak Court internationally famous.  Pin Oak Court becomes Ramsay Street in the show, and interest was therefore high when one of the properties in the street went up for sale recently.

The property has now been sold to an expat Melbourne resident currently living in the United Kingdom.  He is a hardcore fan of the show and has paid over $867,000 for the chance to move into the neighborhood.  37-year-old Andrew Whitney, who is the director of a UK private jet and helicopter flight firm based in York, outbid seven other competitors at the auction for 3 Pin Oak Court.  The property is otherwise known as 30 Ramsay Street and is the home of the character Jarrod ‘Toadie’ Rebecchi, played by Ryan Moloney.  Previous fictional residents of the home include the series’ former high school headmistress Dorothy Burke, who was played by Maggie Dence in the early 1990s.

The former resident of Blackburn North may not have cause for stress with this relocation, given that he also owns 6 Pin Oak Court.  He bought number 6 16 years ago prior to his move to the United Kingdom.

Residents of the street are paid a handsome fee by the producers of the series every year and must agree not to make major changes to the outside appearance of the homes without consulting producers beforehand.
