You might think that packing up your home ahead of a house move is easy, but there are always more hints and tips that you can use to make the whole process more efficient.
The first is to make sure that the right sized boxes are used. Do not get a huge box and fill it with books, for example, as this will make it far too heavy, more likely to break, and will be sure to elicit a few expletives from your moving company! Use smaller boxes for packing heavier items such as books and use the larger boxes for packing lighter items such as soft toys and pillows.
If you are packing the boxes yourself and have a mix of items to go in them, the heavier items need to be on the bottom of the box and the lighter items need to be near the top. This means that lighter items are not being damaged by the heavier ones being placed on top of them.
Your professional movers will probably advise you that you need to make sure that there are no gaps in the boxes. A gap will mean that there is space for the box to be crushed if something is placed on top of it and you therefore need to make sure that you fill the gaps in the boxes as well as you can. Consider using towels and clothing if you have not already packed these items, or make sure that you have plenty of packing paper to hand.
