It’s time to clear out the garage and begin researching automotive storage. Whether you’re looking to store your expensive auto parts in a safe and secure location or are retiring your dream car for the season, renting a storage unit can be an excellent option. Though, it’s important to know how automotive storage tips to ensure optimal storing conditions.

 

Your Garage is Not The Best Automotive Storage Option

Storing your dream car and expensive auto parts in your garage may seem like a great, affordable option at first. After all, it doesn’t cost you anything to do so. However, the potential risk can end up costing you a significant amount of money in the long run.

For starters, garages aren’t the most secure of places. There are also many hazardous materials in a garage that can affect the storage conditions drastically if a leak were to occur.

So, while it may be convenient to store your dream car and auto parts in the garage, it is not the best storage option for automobiles.

 

You Must Properly Prepare Your Car and Parts for Storage

You’ve decided to rent a storage unit to house your automobile and/or auto parts. Excellent choice! However, it’s imperative that you take the extra precautions needed to prep your items for storage to ensure optimal storing conditions.

Firstly, your car and parts must be thoroughly washed and dried – inside and out, prior to placing them in storage. Any dirt and debris left on the surface for a long period of time can result in damage.

Secondly, you’ll want to consider renting a climate-controlled unit to maintain proper temperature and moisture levels for automobile storage. These units also have special ventilation systems in place to prevent condensation buildup, which will protect any items made out of iron and steel, as well as your cars electrical system.

Thirdly, you will want to consider using a car cover to add an extra layer of protection. There are also many additional automobile storage preparations you can do to further protect your prized possessions, such as starting the engine every couple of months, removing the tires and replacing the fluids.

 

Think Outside of the Unit

When you think of storage units, you likely think of the individual outdoor units you see lining the highway.
