Most of us believe that if we are relocating for a new job, we are going to have to pay for it. Most companies hiring new employees out of their state or undergoing business relocation tend to offer packages to help you move. One survey stated that about 65% of companies provided relocation funds in full. About 25% of companies are expecting to increase their business relocation for 2012, with many international moves to the Asian region. The survey also stated that about 87% of companies have a formal policy on business relocation. Around 52% of companies hired new employees and relocated them.
Before you take any job, you need to conduct some research. With the right research you can find out about the relocation policy a company has. You can also discover which companies are more likely to provide you with relocation funds and which ones are not. A smaller company with limited funds is less likely to offer you a reimbursement over a corporation; however, some corporations will not offer funds for your move. A lot of companies try to keep their policies confidential until you have joined the company, but word of mouth is one opportunity for you to find out what the company is willing to do. You can also ask in the interview process. Sometimes relocation is all about your skill set and whether it is in demand, thus you may see reimbursement or you may not. Always negotiate your move and do not just take what is being offered.
