Assessing your home to sell it

Assessing your home to sell it

Once you have decided to make a move, the next step is to sell your current home.  This can be quite a difficult experience, but there are a few tips to help you through it.  One of the most important tips is to take a look at your home as though you are seeing it for the very first time.

People are so emotionally attached to their homes that it is tough to look at it objectively as though they are someone thinking of making a move there for the first time.  Put yourself in the mindset of a buyer and begin at the front of your home and walk through it, taking note of anything that may seem undesirable to a potential buyer.

Clutter tends to collect in a home that we have been living in for several years and often we are not even really aware of it.  This clutter collects in garages and attics and drawers and in and on closets, counter tops and shelves.  Something else of importance is repairs.  There may be things that you have put up with because it is not a high priority, such as faded paintwork on a fence or a broken hinge on a gate.  These things could nonetheless be off-putting for someone thinking of making a move to your home.

Having your home inspected before putting it up for sale can be a good idea and offer you a greater understanding of the conditions that your buyer’s inspector might find.
