Planning your office move can only begin once you know where you are going. Finding the right new building can be a long task and you need to know exactly what you want from the relocation in advance.
It is very important that the building you choose for your commercial relocation is the right size for you. Are you moving because your current building is too small and you want to expand? By how much do you want to expand? Where do you think the company will be in five years’ time? Going too big immediately can be a problem, as you could have a lot of dead space in the office before your expansion takes place. Work everything out carefully before you begin your search.
Once you have found your new office, you can then begin to plan the actual move. Many companies moving offices opt to hire a fit-out company. Such a company will plan your new space to your own specifications, working out where all the desks, storage and even IT equipment will go. Make sure that you talk to a few different companies and find one that really understands what you want. You may get competitive quotes from a few companies; however, unless you really believe that a company can deliver what you want, a cheap quote could be a false economy.
The company you choose will have a project manager for your office and you need to develop a good working relationship with this individual. You could be working with them for several months and getting along well with them will make life much easier.
