Running from November 21st right through to Christmas Eve is the Christkindlmarket in Chicago. Located in Daley Plaza, this event is filled with German shopping stalls and is ideal if you are looking for a few Christmas gifts with a difference.
The authentic German goods on offer include toys, candles, pottery, leather goods and jewelry, and at the same time you can stock up on sweet treats ranging from toffee apples to marzipan. Sip some mulled wine as you shop and get into the festive spirit.
This is the 19th year that the market has been held in Chicago and it takes its inspiration from the traditional markets held each year in Nuremberg. The Nuremberg markets date back to 1545; therefore, Chicago has some catching up to do!
Each year hundreds of thousands of people come to Chicago to see the market and add to their Christmas shopping, with the market now seen as an integral part of the holiday season in the city. In addition to a variety of stalls selling authentic European crafts and goods, there is also plenty of entertainment in and around the plaza.
