The need for extra space is pushing the owners of a restaurant located on Elmwood Avenue to contemplate making a move to a building on Connecticut Street that is a century old.
Steve and Ellen Gedra, the owners of Bistro Europa, have put a proposal in to the Buffalo Planning Board in order to gain approval for a new addition to the Connecticut Street building that was formerly the Golden Key Tavern. The planning board is to take the request under consideration when it meets on 24th September. In a prelude to the new deal, the Gedras have bought the Golden Key property via their Anita Hope LLC affiliate. The property is situated at 36 Connecticut and the couple paid $263,000 to purchase it from Sonia DiPasquale, documents filed with the office of the Erie County Clerk show.
“Basically, we needed more space,” Ellen Gedra noted of the decision to move. The Gedras took over Bistro Europa back in 2009 and the restaurant, which seats 27 people at a time, is often completely filled. The menu in the restaurant includes such items as spiced and flavored bass filled sandwiches, oysters on a half shell and house cured corn beef hash.
Gedra says that her crew is to begin work on the property in the winter, pending a number of Buffalo approvals, and that they are hoping to have the relocation completed and the restaurant open again by next summer.
