It was JR’s very own little piece of Heaven, and now legendary actor Larry Hagman’s extraordinary ranch in California – comprising 43 acres of land – has finally been sold for $5 million. The actor, who died of cancer last year, had originally intended to move out and sell his Ojai home four years ago, back in 2009, for an amazing $11 million.
Unfortunately, the estate was initially unable to attract any purchasers in spite of its famous owner, who was so in love with the place he had named it Heaven. The Mediterranean-style estate, which features ten bathrooms and seven bedrooms, was designed and constructed for the star and his wife Maj in 1992.
The remote estate comes with a solar systems that give energy to the main residence, the caretaker’s home and the well, while generating surplus power. In a move that even JR would have been proud of, Hagman was able to cut his annual power bill from $37,000 to just $13 as a result of installing the system ten years ago.
The 18,000-square-foot house is secured by heavy duty iron gates and comes with an open floor plan and features painted murals, an indoor spa in the style of a grotto, and walls of sliding glass doors. It even comes with a retractable roof on top of a 40-foot saltwater lap pool and is able to accommodate up to 200 people for parties.
