Apply for DITY
The first step is to put in your application for the DITY move by making an appointment with the Personal Property Transportation Office on your current base. A representative of this office will go over all the factors of the program with you in detail and give you all the forms and instructions you will require. If you have any questions regarding the forms, this representative can assist you in filling them out correctly.
Required Forms
At your respective office, you should receive a packet of forms for you to fill out. One of these is the Application for DITY Move and Counseling Checklist, otherwise known as the DD Form 2278. You may also need to provide or fill out some other forms, such as the Advance of Funds Application and Account (Standard Form 1038). You may also require a certified empty weight ticket for each of your shipments complete with your name, social security number and the signature of the weight master, a certified weight ticket for every shipment with the above, and a Travel Voucher or SubVoucher (Original DD Form 1351-2).
Payment and Authorization
You can only proceed with your DITY move after you have submitted an application and received the necessary authorization. Full government payment will not be given until after the relocation has been completed. Once you receive the approval you need, you can move on to the next step! Hiring professional movers!
