Heflin move for popular Ranburne restaurant

The Bulldog Restaurant, which has been a fixture in Ranburne for more than 40 years, is set to close its doors at the end of October and is moving north, according to Bryan Sutton, one of the owners of the family restaurant.

His wife Michelle Sutton, who manages the restaurant, says that the family is looking to expand, with seven members of the nine-member family working at the Ranburne restaurant and looking for the chance to serve more meals.  Bryan, who has more than four decades of experience as a chef, says that only 50 people can be seated on the Main Street restaurant, whereas the building in Heflin that they are making a move to comes with 130 seats and room for basement expansion and a pool table area.

The family had been looking to move into a new site in Heflin, Ranburne or Carrollton when the news came through that their current site was going into foreclosure: “When the building became unavailable, I said ‘It’s time’,” Michelle notes.  They decided on the Heflin location and the current restaurant will close on 1st November, reopening in Heflin as Sutton’s on the 6th.

Michelle admits that the move is a bittersweet one, given that the family lives in Ranburne; however, she admits that they need the chance to grow.  The family restaurant has made a name for itself during its many years in Ranburne and will be missed.
