So, when you move to a new house, it is very important to help your cat adjust to its new home. Remember, relocation can be just as stressful, if not more, on your pets than you!
Moving a cat to a new home can definitely be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be a terrible experience. As long as you are fully prepared to help your cat adjust to your new home, things should work out just fine. Follow these ideas we’ve laid out and you and your cat should be happy in your new home!
- Take along your cat’s favorite things. Don’t throw away your cat’s bed just because it is old. It is her favorite place to sleep, so she should have it in the new home. Try and put the bed in the same location in the new house. For example, if kitty slept in her bed in your room, do the same in the new house.
- Situate the litter box in the same place as it was in your old home. Though your cat may be a little confused since the layout of the house may be different, she will get the idea quickly. As long as she can find her bed, food, and litter box, your move will be a success.
- Don’t change feeding time. Moving is stressful so you want to keep things as similar as possible.
- Bring plenty of toys. If you stored the cat’s toys in a little basket, make sure you use the same one after you move.
- Give your cat a treat the first time you leave her alone in the new house. Call her name and praise her when you return.
