How to move back home after college

If you are a student in your final year of college, the idea of going back home to live might seem a bit unsettling.  After all, you have had four years of independence and doing whatever you want, whenever you want with whomever you want, without having to worry about anyone else’s opinion.

The great majority of students left home to move to college at the age of just 18, but now they are 21 or even 22 and are a lot more mature than they were four years earlier. They are being independent and used to doing things by themselves, such as studying, doing the laundry, working, and generally just looking after themselves. This has made them more mature than many of their parents may be comfortable admitting.

If you are intending to move back home after college, it is a good idea to sit down with your parents and discuss what it will be like.  You also have to remember that they have been living without you around for the last four years and so your return is going to result in adjustments having to be made by all of you.

Sit down with your parents and discuss your plans for finding work and what you intend to do in the meantime.  It is very important to show your parents that you are taking your job searching efforts very seriously. As the old saying goes, you have to behave like an adult if you expect to be treated like one.
