Winter can be a terrific time in which to make a move. The great majority of people in the United States will move between the months of May through to September, and apartment hunting is notoriously slow during the winter months – meaning that you are more likely to be able to save on your expenses and maybe even get a better apartment.
Dealing with the weather is the downside to relocation during winter. It may have been fine all week, but a blizzard could just suddenly pop up out of nowhere on the day of the move. However the good news is that there are a number of tips that I have compiled that can help you safely move in cold weather.
Make sure you keep a close watch on the weather. Check weather reports on a periodic basis and look on the weather map to see if there are any approaching storm fronts that could pose problems for your move. Weather can be fickle and change with little warning even if you have been monitoring for several days however. It is also a good idea to keep a check on traffic reports so that you can avoid busy streets in bad weather.
Another good tip is not to pack winter supplies with the rest of your belongings. Items such as a scraper, shovel and accessories like hats and gloves should be kept in the car for easy access. After all, if it snows, you might even have to dig your way to your new home!
