Let your vet know about the impending move. If you are moving long distance, see if they can recommend another vet. Some sedatives for your pet might also be a good idea if the move is a long one; make sure that you discuss this with your vet beforehand. It is also important to understand if a travel identification card is necessary when moving to a new state, as state laws may regulate the entrance of pets. You should make absolutely sure that you are in possession of all the appropriate papers before you leave.
A pet carrier will be required to contain your pet during the move, or a portable kennel if your pet is a dog. Be sure to properly manager the food and water intake before and during the journey. You may not be able to frequently break during your journey.
