How to prepare for a move

It can be very difficult to plan a move, particularly if you have never undertaken a move before.  The most important thing you can do is to hire the services of a professional moving company to make sure that the job gets done properly. There are a number of things that you can be getting on with yourself before making that important call though.

One good tip is to make an inventory list.  This will help you to establish precisely how many items you are in possession of and thus how many packing supplies you will need to purchase.  You will also be much more likely to be able to spot if any items are not there when your goods arrive at their new destination.

You can also be getting on with sorting out your possessions and getting rid of any unwanted goods.  Check the availability and expiration dates of medicine and cosmetic products, and throw them away if they are out of date.  It can also be a good idea to organize a garage sale in order to sell antiques and clothes or other items.  This cuts down on the amount of stuff you need to move and earns you some extra money in the process.

A day or so before the day of the move you should clean your floors and allow them to dry.  It is also necessary to ensure that the paths the moving company will be using to shift furniture and boxes are free from any and all obstacles.
