Christmas is getting closer but there is still time for you to go to see the ZooLights festival at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. This annual celebration starts at the end of November and runs until January 4th next year, and the festival is just one reason for you to head over there. Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the US, housing more than 1,200 animals.
The ZooLights festival started in 1995 and now gets hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. More than two million lights are used to create the Christmas theme at the zoo; with more than 35 acres to explore, it is a real sight to behold. Every evening the zoo remains open from 5pm until 9pm for visitors who want to see the lights, and there are also plenty of other attractions.
The ZooLights festival also gives you the chance to see demonstrations of ice carvings, go on the carousel or one of the other rides, or you can opt for Santa’s Safari, which the kids will love. This is a trip to see Santa that takes in many of the exotic animals that the zoo is home to.
If this appeals to you, you will be pleased to know that admission to ZooLights is free; however, you may find it difficult to park nearby and you may have to use the paid parking lot at the zoo itself. It is recommended that you arrive early if you want to miss the crowds.
