Make a Little Holiday Shopping Money with Unwanted Items

The last thing you need is to take a lot of possessions to your new home that you no longer want or need. Giving these items away or throwing them away are possible solutions, but why not let them make you a little money? If you begin a few weeks before your move, you may be able to recoup some of the cost of your moving company services so that moving does not cost you as much as you first thought.

The first thing you should do is look online. Sites such as eBay are ideal for those who are moving house, as you can list the items from the comfort of your own home and then post or courier them to the buyer. Larger items such as furniture can be advertised for collection to save on postage costs.

You can also try advertising items locally for sale. Classified ads in local newspapers and on local ‘for sale’ sites are worth a try, and these could move the items much more quickly than opting for an auction-style sale.

Get friends and family to help you by asking around their friends. Everybody knows somebody who is looking for a specific item and if they know you are moving house they will be happy to help you to get rid of the things you no longer need.

If you do not want to make money for yourself, you can always sell the items and donate the proceeds to charity – you benefit by getting rid of what you don’t want and the charity gets a welcome donation.
