Moving in the summer

Moving in the summer

It’s hard to imagine with all the snow around, but summer is right around the corner and you may think that moving in the summer is quite a straightforward process. In some ways this is true; however, it will also present a few challenges.

The main challenge is that this is the peak time for moving. Very few people actually want to move during winter and you will probably find that booking professional movers for your chosen moving date is not as easy as you might think. This is why it is advisable to book as far in advance as you can. One tip is to avoid moving at a weekend or on a Friday, as these days tend to be the most popular.

The summer, other than being the busiest moving months, adds an additional issue… the heat. This will make the whole process sticky and uncomfortable on the actual day; however, there are a few things you can do to help the process along. If your home has air conditioning, leave this on while the moving company is loading your van and the workers can cool down each time they step into the house. Make sure that there are plenty of cool beverages available for everyone ‒ chilled water and juice are perfect.

The heat will also be a factor if you are moving pets and the doors to your home will be open for several hours likely.   You cannot simply put your pets in your car while the loading and unloading is going on; instead, they will need to either be in an air-conditioned room or left with a pet sitter while the work is taking place so that your furry friends are not adversely affected by the heat.
