Moving internationally with young children

Moving internationally with young children

If you are making an international move with young children, there are a few points you need to consider. An employee relocation to another country can be difficult when you have a young family; however, there is likely to be help available from your employer and you need to ensure that you make the most of this.

When you have young children you obviously need to consider their requirements when it comes to accommodation and schools; again, your employer may be able to help you to find schools and there may be a liaison officer at your new office who can point you in the right direction. Schools are something that you need to arrange as far in advance as you can. If you have visited the area in advance then this will be advantageous, as you will know where you want to live and which schools are going to be best for your children.

A long-distance move can be very stressful for all concerned; however, it can be particularly stressful for young children who are not quite sure what is going on. It is important to plan for a long journey; therefore, as part of your moving checklist you should consider factors such as ways to keep your children entertained on the journey, such as being armed with items such as books and pens and paper. Plan the journey so that there are regular stops, if possible, but also be prepared for long flights when breaks are just impossible.
