Moving on a rainy day

Moving on a rainy day

It is something that all home owners dread – the day of the move arrives, the moving company shows up on time, and Mother Nature decides to get clever and the rain begins while you are trying to move your precious possessions.  The good news is that moving in the rain does not have to be as painful as you might imagine.

The most important thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you are able to get through the day of the move safely, and there are some things you can do to make sure that this is the case.  One good tip is to wear sturdy boots that come with a heavy tread.  You might also want to consider wearing gloves, as they will offer you additional grip in wet conditions; gardening gloves are particularly suitable

Rather than placing plastic drop sheets on the wet entryways to your home, which can be slippery and dangerous, use old sheets; this is especially advisable on hardwood floors in order to offer traction. You should still watch out for your footing though, make sure the sheets are as smooth as possible to avoid tripping on excess material.

After protecting yourself, protecting your belongings should be next on your priority list.  Cardboard boxes lose both their stability and their capability to protect your goods when wet; therefore, you should quickly look into hiring or buying plastic moving boxes.  They will stay rigid in the rain and are also water resistant more-so than a traditional corrugate box, thus safeguarding their contents during relocation.
