Moving to College

Moving to College

If you are set to move to college for the very first time and have no idea what you should take with you to make life easier, there are a few tips to help you with the transition and to ensure that you are not left with regrets.

One good tip is to check to see exactly what is provided by the college and what you will need to bring with you when you move.  If you will be sharing a bathroom with other students, there may not be cleaning supplies already provided; however, you may not need to bring any supplies yourself if you are living on a floor that has a community bathroom.

It is also not necessarily a good idea to match your sheets to your towels to your rugs to your pajamas.  While you may be tempted to try to create a room that looks like it belongs in a magazine, it is important to remember that your roommate will be likely to have their own idea for the rest of the room, which could be a completely different color scheme altogether.  You should discuss with your roommate in advance what they will be bringing so that you can share the load.

While all of the main items should be packed well in advance, you should make sure that you have everything packed at least two days prior to relocation, as there is nothing worse than panicking over packing at the least minute.  When you arrive at the college and get settled in it’s a good idea to make sure something doesn’t need to be sent back home before your parents leave.
