While the bad news is that the New York Jewish Film Festival has already started, the good news is that it runs until January 29th. Tickets are available for screenings and if you want to be a part of this event then you are going to have to move quickly.
The festival, which is now in its 24th year, is run jointly by the Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Each of the films shown focuses on the Jewish experience and many are critically-acclaimed and have gone on to be widely shown in theaters and on TV. Not only are New York premieres of films shown but some are also world premieres.
Panel discussions and a poster exhibition form part of the festival, and the films that are being shown are from all over the world. Members of the selection committee include Aviva Weintraub, the associate curator of the Jewish Museum and one of the directors of the film festival, and Florence Almozini, the senior programmer at the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
The film festival is made possible through generous donations and support from the New York State Council and a number of different arts foundations, the German Consulate General New York and the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs.
Films being shown this year include The Mystery of Happiness, Deli Man and The Dune. Most have several showings; therefore, if you happen to miss one, it is usually easy to catch up.
