Office relocation tips

Making an office move can be a tough endeavor, but the good news is that by following a few simple tips you can make the entire experience a good deal smoother.  The first thing you should do is to appoint a move coordinator to be responsible for the planning of the relocation from start to finish, including all logistics and communication.

It is crucial to plan as far in advance as you possibly can.  The more time that everyone, including you, your moving company and your members of staff, has to plan and execute the relocation, the more efficiently the day of the move will be able to be handled.  One of the key aspects of the move is communication.  Everyone needs to be informed about the relocation and a moving guide should be written to inform employees of all the procedures they will have to follow.  It is also a good idea to send out regular updates about the move.

One important tool for moving an office is labeling.  Numbers and colors can be used to represent departments, employees and floors.  Labels should be located in places that will be easy for the moving company employees to see.

The move should take place out of office hours.  This not only limits employee downtime but also helps the moving company to be more efficient when moving overnight or on a weekend.  All personal items, such as plants and photo frames, need to be removed from desks and offices by their owner before the move.
