Packing for a move

Packing for a move

Moving to a new area can prove to be quite a harrowing experience for a lot of people, both children and adults.  The realization that we may never walk down our favorite street, or see some of our friends and neighbors again can be quite tough to handle.  The reality is that although almost everyone will have made a move at some point during their lifetime, it is rarely seen as a fun experience.  Whether you are moving locally, interstate or abroad, having to reorganize your entire life somewhere else is often tiring and emotional.  Part of the problem with moving is the organizing and safe packing of your possessions; however, if you want to ensure that your move is a smooth one, there are some good tips that you can follow in order to achieve this.

Although it may seem like a tedious task, one of the best things that you can do is to write down a list of everything prior to the beginning of the relocation process.  You should write down everything that you own and index it, as this will prove to be very practical when the day of the move actually arrives.  It will provide you with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that all of your possessions have been successfully transported and that you will not be stressing out trying to determine where everything is.  In order to be even more organized, it is a good idea to number each box and write down a list of what it contains in precise detail – something that is of particular importance if you are dealing with an interstate or overseas move.

The next thing you need to do is to gather your supplies, and bear in mind that you will require a lot of these.  It is always better to find out that you have more supplies that you need than less, so do not be worried about getting too many.  One of the absolute must-have materials is strong tape, and wardrobe boxes can also prove to be extremely useful for tall, bulky items and clothing.  Wardrobe boxes can also be used to store miscellaneous items such as king lamp posts.  That being said, you should take care to ensure that the boxes are never made too heavy or you will run the risk of having them break during the move, which is something that could prove to be disastrous.  Always hire a moving company to handle the relocation of your possessions.  Moving the contents of a home is something best to left to the professionals and not placed in the hands of amateurs.

Color coordination is a good final tip.  Attaching a colored sticker to every box dependent on the room that its contents will be going to is a great way to make the relocation process go much more smoothly.  Make certain that all your kitchen utensils go in the same, easily accessible box, and do the same with your children’s accessories.
