Packing up your valuables

Packing up your valuables

When you are moving house there is always some concern about how you are going to make sure that your valuables stay safe. You may have items of great sentimental value, monetary value or things that you simply do not want to take any risks with. In all these cases, you need to make sure that you speak to your moving company.

Professional movers will be able to explain to you how things should be packed, provide you with the right packing materials, or even do your packing for you. It is important to recognize in these situations that professional movers are experts and do this sort of thing all the time. They may suggest special packing crates for items such as artwork, additional padding for items such as glassware, or specialist lifting equipment for large and heavy items such as pianos or antique furniture.

If there are small items such as jewelry that you prefer to transport yourself rather than entrust to your movers, you need to be sure that you have your own insurance in place to cover any damage or loss while such items are in transit.

The thing to remember is that it is better to be safe than sorry. Some might consider it overkill to wrap your favorite antique wardrobe in layers of bubble wrap; however, this should help your treasured piece of furniture to get to the other end without suffering any unnecessary wear and tear, which would be likely to leave you feeling distressed.
