Protect the Things That are Commonly Damaged During a Move

There are a lot of things to take into consideration while moving. It’s more than packing and loading or unloading boxes. It’s a major life change that can be costly and stressful. To ensure that you avoid additional and unwanted headaches, take the time to prepare you things for their journey. You don’t want to have to incur the added expenses of replacing things due to hasty negligence or poor planning. Simply organization can go a long way in packing and can also lead to less broken personal belongings during a move.

Here is a list of those fragile items that need that a little extra attention while packing:

Electronics:

This may seem like a no-brainer, but moving electronics can be risky. They can be large and cumbersome and not to mention extremely fragile and costly. Do not cut corners when packing them up. Use additional moving blankets, and padding. The last thing you want is to go through the trouble of moving everything only to find that your tv screen has cracked and now it needs to be replaced. If the task seems too daunting, it might be a wise choice to hire a professional moving company. BMS Moving & Storage can take care of your move from start to finish. They will pack your things and move them on your behalf with the utmost care and professionalism.

Serving Ware:

Again, this is another category that probably seems that like it doesn’t need mentioning, but protecting your priceless china is a worthwhile cause that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Invest in packing paper or bubble wrap and wrap each piece individually. This is the safest way to transport them. You can also buy partitioned boxes for glassware.

*Houseplants:

Often overlooked, houseplants can be extremely temperamental when moving. It’s important to try and mimic an environment they’re used to while moving them. If it’s too hot or too cold, your plants might suffer. Transplant them to lighter, plastic pots if needed to make them easier to carry. Don’t forget to water them as you usually would and secure them so they can’t tip over or get rattled around.

*Alcohol Collection:

A lot of people forget about packing up moving their alcohol and leave it to last minute. It can be a costly, and messy oversight. Take the time to securely tighten all caps. Pack them securely to avoid them banging together and breaking which will cause even more damage (think broken glass and spilled liquid). You can even use a divided cardboard box to keep them upright and wrap each bottle in a bag to avoid messes.

Take an inventory of everything you have and make sure you prepare yourself to avoid undue emotional strain and headache. If at any point the task seems too monumental, always seek professional help. It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially with the stress that moving already causes. BMS Moving & Storage offers a complimentary moving quote and their service is exemplary. Let them ease your workload and take away the added pressure of having to take of everything on your own.
