Resources for military families

Families in the military are almost always on the move and while the frequent relocation is an accepted and expected occupational hazard of the military lifestyle, this does not mean that the challenges associated with moving necessarily get any easier.  The good news, however, is that there are plenty of resources around to help families in this situation.

Whether you have made a military move dozens of times before or this is your first such relocation, it can be a lifesaver to have access to professional services no more than a mouse click away.  One good resource is Army OneSource, which offers links to a number of different resources for families in the US Army, including health care, family programs and services, family housing, and education assistance.

SmartWebMove offers a strategic online resource that helps personnel enlisted in the Navy to be able to plan out all aspects of their relocation within the continental United States.  The same valuable tools are offered to service members from all military branches that are stationed in and around Washington DC.

A wealth of information for Air Force members and their families is delivered by the website ArmedForcesCrossroads, which includes regularly updated and extremely useful links to truck rental firms, professional moving companies and real estate agencies.  It even includes a spouse network that includes a variety of firms that support military moving.  Other helpful sites include Lifelines and the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities.
