Coup Des Tartes, which is a very popular restaurant situated on 16th Street in Phoenix, has been forced into moving after 17 years at the site. Coup Des Tartes has been named as one of the most romantic spots in the Valley year after year; however, the restaurant – with its beloved atmosphere and French cuisine – has been given just six months to vacate the property. “It’s a home, it’s our home,” says owner Ron Pacioni. “It was a 1933 farmhouse. It was an artichoke and date farm back in the day.”
The very cozy Coup Des Tartes is also the most well-known and longest-running BYOB restaurant in the city of Phoenix, but this has not prevented the forced relocation. “There’s been so many wonderful events, so many proposals and first dates, and it just has a lot of history and to be dismissed with no thought is upsetting,” Pacioni admits.
The land on which Coup Des Tartes stands was purchased in May by the Van Tuyl Group in a foreclosure purchase of land amounting to 120,000 square feet, including the Coup Des Tartes building, with Pacioni saying that the firm intends to use the land for a car dealership as an overflow parking lot. “The law is the law, it’s just not right,” Pacioni notes of the imposed move, adding that the restaurant is very successful and will find a new home with the same hospitality, people and great food behind it.
