The chaos of moving day cannot really be avoided. It is a stressful time and you are constantly on edge over things that might go wrong, which is why you need to make sure that everybody stays safe on the day of the move.
There are going to be a lot of people coming in and out of your house on the day and you need to make it easy for them to move about. Clearing all walkways will help to prevent slips, trips and falls. Think about moving items such as potted plants away from doors and out of the front porch. Door and floor mats should also be taken up, as these can be trip hazards. Your movers may bring a floor covering with them that is designed to protect your floors as they move around and will not slip.
Consider removing items such as wind chimes and hanging plants. Even if they are not directly in the way of the professional movers, such items may get in the way when the professionals are trying to move bulky items out of the house.
You might also want to think about disconnecting the screen door spring so that it can be left open for the movers, and don’t forget potential hazards outside the house. Is the path up to your home slippery from moss, or are there things that could trip the moving company workers? Clear the path of weeds and cut any hedging plants back a little to provide plenty of space.
