Syria has downed a Turkish jet fighter. Talks by NATO have lasted over the weekend due to the fighter jet incident. Syria has already been a target for NATO, considering recent uprisings in the country.
The US is on alert for US military moves, should they be needed. Turkey has claimed an unarmed plane was attacked in international airspace, meaning that it was not Syrian airspace. There was a report that on Sunday about 40 individuals were killed in government and rebel attacks within Syrian borders. The entire uprising is very concerning for the US to the point that it might decide that a military move closer to Syria is needed. It will stay in friendly countries, but the military may be ready to help out to put an end to the uprising if there are threats to peaceful nations.
For now no relocation of troops will happen, but NATO and allied forces will continue to monitor what is happening in the area. Syria is just one of many areas overseas that is making the US uncomfortable. Russia has been helping Syria recently, which is why the US might relocate some troops to the area in an attempt to stop more arms from reaching members of the Syrian rebels. Hopefully no action will need to be taken by NATO, the US, or other allies. There is still hope that the rebels might be taken out so that the fighting can stop and peace resume.
