The process with PCS orders

The process with PCS orders

If you have been given PCS (permanent change of station) orders by your military employers, you need to get ready for a move. A military relocation is much easier when you know the process to follow.

First of all you should have a meeting with your base transportation office. You should arrange this meeting as soon as you can, as this is when you will find out about all the options that are available to you and you can begin to make arrangements. You can then contact the family center at your new base, which will be able to help you with a variety of military move programs and tell you everything you and your family need to know about your new location.

You need to let your current housing office know when you are moving and meet the regulations that will be in place, such as cleaning and decorating if needed. Not meeting these regulations could be costly and time consuming, making the process of the move more stressful than it needs to be.

It is also worth talking to the finance office about the benefits available for a military move, as such a move could prove to be costly. There are plenty of guides and checklists online that you can use to help you through this process and it is a good idea to make use of these, as they offer advice on everything from packing to how to settle in at your new location.
