It can be difficult enough to move to another neighborhood or city, but moving to another state is an entirely different ballgame altogether and is far more complicated than just changing your address. Some laws might be different in another state and this is definitely something that you need to be aware of before you move. In some states, for example, there are various different child safety laws, with children under five years of age required by law to have a car seat in some states and under six years of age in others; likewise, different states may have different laws regarding things such as breastfeeding in public.
It is a good deal easier to forward your mail nowadays and you can even use the Internet to do it without the need to queue at the post office. The USPS recommends that you do this at least two weeks prior to relocation. Having mail forwarded is not permanent, however, and will happen only for a year after your move. It is therefore up to you to let the people who mail you, including credit card companies and banks, know about your change of address.
You will also need to get hold of new car plates and a new license, which is something that you should do as soon as possible when you arrive in your new state and which generally takes between one and two months.
