Moving is always a stressful experience for everyone involved, and this stress is magnified for those in the services given that a military move is considerably more complicated than one in the civilian world. As well as the normal worries over the packing and moving of personal belongings, military families also often have to cope with such things as inoculations, passports and visas. The good news is that there are ways to cut down on the concerns that often surrounds military relocation.
One of the first things you should do is to arrange for the relocation with the base or your post transportation office as soon as you possibly can, as you will have a better likelihood of getting the best movers in the area in this way. You also need to organize your packing. One room should be designated for items you intend to ship to your new destination, one for items you intend to place in storage, and one for items you can take with you in a suitcase. The moving company will then be aware of what goes where and there will be no confusion, as they will not be trying to get the right things from different rooms.
You also need to make sure that you are able to make your weight limits, and you should get rid of any items that you are not going to need or which can be easily replaced after the military move. Make sure you get rid of any bagged garbage in your property before the movers arrive.
