Unpacking Order is Key to Moving Day Sanity

Unpacking Order is Key to Moving Day Sanity

It’s no secret that moving is stressful.  Whether you’re moving across town or across the county, one of the best ways to avoid being overwhelmed on moving day is to have a clear plan about how you’ll unpack at your new place.

Know the Lay of the Land

Obviously, you want to get large furniture and appliances in place first; this is where a floor plan of your new place might come in handy.  If you know where you want things to go you’ll waste less time trying to figure out where they’ll fit or look best.

Just Eat It

Even if you’re not much of a cook, it’s still nice to have food, utensils, and cookware easily accessible as soon as you move in.  If you have things like fine china or crystal stemware you may want to unpack those right away.  HOWEVER with so many people coming in and out of your house, keep in mind accidents may happen.

You Gotta Sleep

You’re going to be tired when this is all over, so making sure sheets, pillows, and bedding are readily accessible means you can crash in comfort as soon as the movers take off.  Be sure to set up bed frames, headboards, and mattresses while you have help around.

Clean Up Your Act

The bathroom is another space you’re going to need access to right away, so be sure you’ve got toilet paper, soap, towels and other toiletries where you can easily get them.
