USA Chicken & Biscuit moves to vacant Derry KFC

A vacant KFC restaurant in Derry that has been described as an eyesore due to its unsightly condition is likely to look a good deal more appetizing when a new restaurant makes a move into town.  USA Chicken & Biscuit is to add a second restaurant to its existing operation by taking over the former KFC outlet.

“I’m going to bring the chicken business back to the area,” says the owner of USA Chicken & Biscuit, Rahim Woodod.  The plans will see the hiring of six or seven members of staff from the local area, with the intention of being open before Christmas.  The business already has a restaurant located at 990 Elm Street in Manchester.

USA Chicken & Biscuit will be leasing the building from someone who purchased the former KFC restaurant, according to town planning director George Sioras.  The town is currently finalizing paperwork for the sale but the name of the new owner is not currently available, Sioras says.  The move comes after complaints from town residents at a council meeting earlier this month, with one person describing it as an eyesore.

The property, which is situated at 10 Crystal Avenue, has been sitting vacant for a number of months, with tall weeds growing around the building; however, since the sale of the property, workers have been cleaning it up and removing vegetation.  The interior is also to be cleaned to be prepared for the new restaurant making a move into the building.
