It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got school-aged kids, toddlers, or pre-teens – moving day is a busy day and you will definitely want to plan some kid-related activities for the big day. As long as the kids are busy and taken care of, your long-distance or local move will go much more smoothly.
If your kids are old enough, let them help. If they aren’t, it’s a good idea to keep them out of the moving chaos. Here’s a list of ideas that might keep your kids busy on moving day.
- Pet-Sitting. If you have pets, they will need to be taken care of during the move as well, so why not let your kids watch them? As long as the kids are old enough, they can take the dog for a walk or make sure kitty has plenty of food and water on moving day.
- Box Assembly. As you pack, you can let the kids assemble the boxes and even tape them up. You may even want to allow them to label the boxes so that they are placed in the right rooms in your new home.
- Garbage Check. On moving day, there will be plenty of trash. Give the kids some large garbage bags and let them patrol the house and yard for strewn packing paper and excess boxes to pick up.
- Hey Mr. DJ. Who doesn’t love music while they work? Let the kids play DJ and change the songs every few minutes – and give them requests of what you might want to hear.
The key is to let the kids help and be involved. Moving is a family event, so if the kids are old enough, why shouldn’t they feel a part of things?
