What do you actually know about the moving industry? If you are like most people, you probably don’t know much more than seeing the occasional moving truck making its way through a neighborhood or hearing of some moving company scam on the news. But that’s not the whole story.
The first thing you should know is that the professional moving companies are actually governed by Federal and local authorities and there are plenty of reputable moving companies out there. In fact, the industry consists of thousands of reputable companies that can provide exceptional service and are regulated. However, as you read more about moving and relocation services, you may find that you see how much the industry has made an effort to be trusted once again.
In fact, a couple of years ago the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) introduced the ProMover designation. Only the most reputable moving companies will have such a designation. The AMSA screens applicants for any convictions, confirms compliance with state laws, and the applying moving companies must agree to the AMSA Code of Ethics. Movers who don’t measure up are subject to expulsion.
So, even if you don’t know the first thing about the moving companies in your area, you now know that there is an organization that is there to ensure your protection. Do a little research on the moving company before signing any contracts with them. Remember, the more you know the less likely you are to have a negative moving experience.
